In honor of Founders Week, an outstanding student and alum from each college are rewarded for their success, excellence and leadership. The blog will feature a different college each day during Founders Week, April 4–13, 2014.

Today’s College of Business honorees share retail marketing genius and active roles in the community.

Distinguished Alumna: Debra CannondebraCannon

Debra Cannon first came to Chico State as a freshman in 1968, graduated at the top of her class in American studies, returned to campus to work in Meriam Library after studying at University of Oregon’s School of Library Science, and found herself again following a passion in downtown Chico.

Cannon and her daughter, Colleen Winter, founded LuLu’s Fashion Lounge in 1996. What started as a downtown boutique expanded to become an online retail business, lulus.com, based in a 20,000 square-foot warehouse. Lulu’s employs 115 Chicoans.

Student: Sierra Delorefice-Chicarino

Ever wonder about the Wildcat behind the bookstore’s social media? Sierra Delorefice-Chicarino, president of the business and economics fraternity Phi Chi Theta, teamed up with another student last summer to revamp the Wildcat Store’s social media platforms.SierraDeloreficeChicarino

Delorefice-Chicarino’s campaigns resulted in a spike in the store’s involvement including an 1820% increase on Pinterest. But that’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Delorefice-Chicarino’s community outreach.

She is a regular volunteer in the community to raise money for the Butte Humane Society, American Cancer Association, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and the Alzheimer’s Association. Delorefice-Chicarino, who is graduating this spring in marketing with a minor in psychology, is also an active participant in the Association of Women in Business.

“I am most proud of being a part of Phi Chi Theta, a professional coed business and economics fraternity, on campus,” she said. “Being a part of a growing organization full of motivated individuals is very inspiring.”
