Publications, Presentations and Exhibits

Adam Irish, Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice Department, penned an article in Opinio Juris titled “The Legality of a U.S. Space Force.”.

Roland Lamarine, Department of Health and Community Services, co-authored a pair of articles that were accepted for publication. “Analysis of ingredients of a traditional solid form of cannabis (Majoon Birjandi) produced in Southern Khorasan Province” appeared in Indian Journal of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology; and “Majoon Birjandi: A rationale for the medical use of a traditional and uniquely processed Iranian folk medicine containing cannabis” will appear in Medical Hypotheses.

Cris Guenter, School of Education, has three different pieces of art concurrently in three different national exhibits. Her colored pencil rendering is in the Colored Pencil Magazine’s 2018 International Competition displayed online in December; an acrylic painting titled, “Cats I Know,” is on display at the All Media National Juried Exhibit (42 were selected by jurors nationally) at the Chico Art Center Sept. 7-27; and a digital oil painting titled “Storm Brewing in the Sierra” is on display at the National Art Education Association’s 2018 Members National Juried Exhibit (60 were selected by jurors out 386 entries) from October 1, 2018 through January 4, 2019 in Alexandria, Virginia. It’s very rare for an artist to have three concurrent pieces shown at three national exhibits.

Awards and Activities

Jennifer Jewell, host of “Cultivating Place” on North State Public Radio, received the 2018 Media Awards Golden medal of Achievement for Best On-Air Talent presented by The Association for Garden Communicators. “Cultivating Place” is produced by NSPR’s Sarah Bohannon.

He-Lo Ramirez, a biological sciences major, was recognized at the national Botany 2018 meeting held July 21-25 in Rochester, New Hampshire. Ramirez received the award for Best Undergraduate Poster for his ecology-themed poster titled “Leaf trait variation in a Quercus lobate common garden experiment is not explained by climatic conditions on maternal seed source.”
