Worth Sharing: P. Willey Participates in Multi-Agency Study of Ancient Ground Sloths
An artist’s rendering represents a possible interaction between humans and a giant ground sloth. Professor emeritus P. Willey was provided expertise into findings of prehistoric footprints in White Sands National Monument. in New Mexico.

P. Willey, professor emeritus Department of Anthropology, participated in a multi-agency study of the relationship between ancient humans and giant ground sloths in White Sands National Monument, New Mexico. Read more here.
Ann Schulte, School of Education, co-presented in the panel, “Role of Schools in the Future of Rural Communities,” at the Rural Summit at William and Mary College in March 2018.
Natalya Shkoda, Department of Music and Theatre, had performances from her last three commercial solo CDs released under Centaur Records (2011, 2015 and 2018, respectively) broadcasted both nationally by Classical FM in New Orleans, LA (Viktor Kosenko Piano Music, Vol. 2), KING FM in Seattle, WA (Viktor Kosenko Piano Music, Vol. 3) and WURV in Burlington, VT (P.I. Tchaikovsky “The Seasons,” Op. 37 bis No. 6) and internationally by Radio UNAM in Mexico City (Viktor Kosenko Piano Music, Vol. 3) February and March 2018.
Awards and Activities
The Chico State men’s golf team captured the California Collegiate Athletic Association title held at Butte Creek Country Club. Read more here.
Students Selma Betten and Rachel Fictum represented Chico State at the National Collegiate Sales Competition (NCSC) and placed 18th out of 71 competing Universities.
Max Dickstein, a student in the College of Business, was honored at the American Marketing Association (AMA) International Collegiate Conference where he took third place in the country for Sales Student of the Year. This award recognizes AMA collegiate members who demonstrate superior exposure to and participation in sales-related events. Read more here. Additionally, Max was recognized as the Outstanding Student Leader for the University’s College of Business for his leadership efforts and ongoing mentoring of fellow Wildcats.
Jennifer Oloff-Lewis, School of Education, and colleagues across two other colleges were awarded $1.2 million Noyce Grant from the Natural Science Foundation, to provide funding for future math and science secondary teachers over the next five years.
Brittany Fortune, Department of Finance and Marketing and the Seufferlein Sales Program, won the Best Teaching Innovation Award at the National Conference for Sales Management.
Eight employees representing the “best of the best” of University retirees will be inducted into the Emeritus Retired Faculty and Staff Association Hall of Honor in May. Read more here.
