Wildcats at Work

Harrison McMillen avoided the stereotypical sweltering summer months. Instead McMillen, a senior recreation and administration major, spent his summer vacation working as a beach attendant at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort.

As a beach attendant, McMillen got a taste of the hotel work and made his name known among Hyatt personnel. He got the interview for the position through his Recreation 354 class during the spring semester. McMillen and 26 other Chico State students got jobs at the resort, and they worked and lived together during the summer.

“The teachers really push you (and help find) internships,” he said.

Thanks to this opportunity, McMillen is progressing toward his goal of being a hotel general manager.

“It just gets your foot in the door with Hyatt,” he said.

Wildcat Welcome Album

Students flooded the Wildcat Store, coffee shops, and the rest campus last week as the countdown to a new semester began. Freshmen and transfer students were greeted with a flash mob at the Wildcat Welcome ceremony at University Stadium, and other back-to-school events for new students included WREC It!, Rock the Block, and a concert.

Here’s a taste of Welcome Week in pictures:

While the Students Were Away…

Saying that Taylor Herren missed students on campus would be an understatement. Here’s a peek into how the Associated Students president spent her summer preparing for the new school year.
