The Chico Experience

With The Chico Experience Week, one can expect a wide variety of entertainment, good eats, and exceptional community-based events. This year, you can celebrate the Chico Experience, in addition to Queer Week, Greek Week, Suicide Prevention Week, and Family Weekend, all with a variety of fabulous and fun events in October…which is also Hispanic Heritage Month…which is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month…which is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month (Phew! Say all that five times fast!). The schedule is jam-packed with more than 90 events on campus and in the community, so here is a preview of some of our top picks for the 10 days to come:

Coming Out foComing Out For Artr Art: October 8–16

Habitat Lab, 199 East 13th Street

Sponsored by Stonewall Alliance Center, Coming Out for Art is an art show that provides a creative outlet for the LGBTQ+ community and allies to fully express their feelings and attitudes surrounding sexuality and gender in a productive and positive way.

School Of the Arts Presents Into The Woods: ($) October 11–15, 7:30 p.m.; October 16, 2 p.m. 

Harlen Adams Theatre, Chico State

Hosted by Chico State School of the Arts, musical theater legends Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine adopt everyonInto the Woods brochuree’s favorite storybook characters and blend them into one incredible evening of theater. Into the Woods connects the dots between Once Upon a Time and Happily Ever After and explores the question of what happens next.

All of Chico State’s art galleries are free and open to the public! Throughout the week, come check out the Janet Turner Print Museum for a curator’s talk (October 13, Zingg Recital Hall, 5:30 p.m.), the Valene L. Smith Museum of Anthropology for an exhibit on dragons, and the Jackie Headley University Art Gallery for an artist’s talk and reception (October 13, 6:30 p.m., ARTS Room 121).

Formed in 1995 and composed of tubas, trombones, euphoniums, and French horns, CSU, Chico’s Low Brass Choir will present a concert full of highly enjoyable music from all genres!

Make A Difference Day at Chico State: October 15

Volunteer for Make A Difference Day! Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Includes a free T-shirt and BBQ lunch. Volunteers should meet at Trinity Commons at 7:45 a.m., Walk to Bidwell Park 9-1 p.m., BBQ lunch at 12:30 p.m.

Chico State Speech and Debate Team present the Great Debate Warm-Up: October 12, 7:15 p.m
