Consistently recognized for its high-quality, high-value education, Chico State has once again earned national acclaim—landing a spot in Money magazine’s list of “Best Colleges in America” for 2024 with 4.5 out of a possible 5 stars.

The publication’s ratings, published earlier this month, includes 745 colleges and universities that were ranked from a high of 5 stars down to 2.5 stars. These institutions’ scores were measured according to 26 different factors—from alumni salaries and tuition costs to financial aid and graduation rates—before being broken down into three categories: quality of education (30 percent), affordability (40 percent) and outcomes (30 percent).

Chico State was also included in the magazine’s list of the nation’s “Best Public Colleges“ and its list of the “Best Colleges in the West.”

The University, which is regularly recognized for its exceptional educational offerings, affordability, upward social mobility opportunities, and commitment to sustainability, also received 4.5 stars in 2023, the first year Money magazine implemented a numeric ranking system.

All 23 universities in the California State University system received ratings of 4 or better.

“Being recognized as one of the ‘Best Colleges in America’ by Money magazine is a testament to Chico State’s dedication to student success, affordability, and social mobility,” said Ahmad Boura, vice president for University Advancement and CEO of the University Foundation. “While many fine institutions are on the list, Chico State is a rarity in California. Our diverse students come here for a unique collegiate experience in a true college town, graduate with low debt, and leave well-prepared for the future.”
