The sweetest tradition of the summer is back as Chico State’s University Farm announces the return of its “U-Pick Peaches” event on Wednesday, August 14.

Located at 311 Nicholas C. Schouten Lane, just south of Chico, the University Farm invites the community to indulge in its renowned peaches and other delectable stone fruits. The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday and continue until the produce runs out.

The University Farm offers longtime favorite Fay Elberta peaches for picking once again this year. This fruit features a large, yellow-skinned freestone with a slight red blush, good shape, and nice flavor. It’s a popular variety for canning. Picking is first-come, first-served, and University Farm accepts cash, check, and credit card.

To ensure fruit quality, visitors are encouraged to use provided bags and boxes for their purchases, priced at $3 per pound. Please avoid bringing personal containers to minimize the handling and bruising of these premium fruits.

“This year, we’re thrilled to uphold the cherished tradition of our U-Pick Peach event,” said Kevin Renker, University Farm row crops specialist. “Beyond offering affordable, locally grown fruit, this event fosters community engagement and showcases the diverse educational opportunities available at the University Farm.”

Proceeds from the event will support the College of Agriculture’s orchard program, which provides hands-on learning experiences for students and advances agricultural research.

For real-time updates on peach availability, please contact the Peach Hotline at 530-898-4989.

In addition to peach sales, visitors can also purchase fresh corn from 8 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday. The University Farm Meats Laboratory, typically open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, will also be open from 8 a.m. to Noon this Wednesday to provide the community with additional opportunities to explore and support local agriculture.
