Freshman Audrey Perez, who was majoring in psychology and biology, passed away November 1. She was 19.

Born August 10, 2001, she enrolled at Chico State in fall 2019. She made an impression on faculty and staff as a bright, talkative student with a lot to contribute.

“Audrey was an active participant in the REACH program last year, and a vital part of her peer ‘hub’ and the larger Chico Student Success Center community,” said Jessica Dietrich, coordinator for Raising Educational Achievement in Collaborative Hubs (REACH). “I remember sitting with her at our pumpkin patch outing last year, listening to her talk with excitement about her goals and future plans.”

Music and theatre professor Erin Horst shared that Perez supported her “World Theatre” classmates in discussion boards with support and kindness, while expressing appreciation for cultures outside her own and a dream to travel the world.

She also seemed to have a love for the performing arts, once writing in an assignment, “I like how [this] shined light on theatre being more than merely a form of entertainment, it really does bring people together and help bring an understanding of other cultures.”’

We will share service details when we learn of them. The University flag will be lowered Tuesday, November 10, in her honor.
