Chico State has once again been recognized as one of the top business schools with an MBA program—with a Tier One ranking in CEO Magazine’s 2023 Global MBA rankings. The University’s online MBA program also ranked No. 46 globally, jumping up from No. 65 last year. This marks the fifth year that Chico State’s MBA program has been ranked by CEO Magazine.

“This ranking is a reflection of the high quality of our AACSB-accredited business programs,” said Terence Lau, dean of the College of Business. “Our dedicated faculty, small class sizes and emphasis on experiential learning consistently yield strong employment outcomes for our students.”

CEO Magazine has been showcasing top business schools from around the globe since it first launched in 2008. In 2012, the publication presented its annual Global MBA Rankings, profiling MBA, Executive MBA (EMBA) and Online MBA programs.

“The MBA market is hypercompetitive, and our ranking demonstrates the strength of our program,” said Online MBA Program Director Ken Chapman. “Our Online MBA program has a unique blend of attributes making it attractive to working professionals. This includes three-, five-, and six-week courses that balance high-engagement pedagogy focused on practical knowledge and skills that students can immediately apply. In addition, the program moves quickly, allowing some students to complete the degree in as little as 18 months.”

This year, CEO Magazine reached out to business schools across North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It ranked data from 121 schools offering 239 programs in 24 countries (76 online, 68 EMBA, and 95 full and part-time MBA programs). CEO Magazine examined institutions by using a ranking system entirely geared and weighted to fact-based criteria, with the quality of faculty members by far the most significant factor. The rankings aim to “cut through the noise” and provide potential students with a performance benchmark for the schools under review. The data points considered in order of most weighted to least are:

  • Quality of Faculty: 34.95%
  • International Diversity: 9.71%
  • Class Size: 9.71%
  • Accreditation: 8.74%
  • Faculty to Student Ratio: 7.76%
  • Price: 5.83%
  • International Exposure: 4.85%
  • Work Experience: 4.85%
  • Professional Development: 4.85%
  • Gender Parity: 4.85%
  • Delivery Methods*: 3.8%
