“They are a different people, a multitalented people, a people…who need people…and who are, in many ways, the luckiest people in the world.”

The controversial parody Spamalot is fast-approaching Laxson Auditorium. Actually, it just moved in. Until this week, the cast was rehearsing in the Performing Arts Center while waiting for Laxson to open up.spamalot

But the cast is always looking on the bright side.

“It is truly wonderful to finally get to rehearse where we will be performing,” said Philomena Block, who plays Patsy. “It is a huge, beautiful theatre, and it’s so great to finally see the jokes and songs on a big stage.”

Block, a junior psychology and music theatre double major, looks forward to performing her favorite scene, “Always Look on the Bright Side,” and being in front of an audience.

“This is a pure comedy, and finding out all the places the audience reacts is always my favorite part of doing shows,” she said.

Spamalot is the Broadway adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail and has been nominated for 12 Tony Awards. It will performed at Laxson April 30- May 3 at 7:30 p.m. and May 4 at 2:30 p.m.

“The audience should look for lots of fabulous costume, huge sets, and tons of laughs,” Block said.

BATARANG

Gabe Maddox is a senior applied computer graphics major treading down a different path. He realized four years into his degree that his calling was not applied computer graphics, but rather working in the shop.

Maddox, the founder of the Blacksmith Club, spends his free time sketching, grinding, and forging in Ayres Hall. Whether it is a project for friends or for fun, Maddox says there is something satisfying about seeing his work go from being a sketch on paper to a real-life object.

In this video, Maddox shows exactly how one of his doodles becomes a replica of Batman’s weapon—a batarang.
