After a nationwide search and input from stakeholders across campus, Chico State has named Isaac Brundage its new vice president for Student Affairs. In this role, Brundage will provide leadership for a full range of services for Chico State students, including admissions and enrollment, financial aid and scholarships, residence life and student housing, health and counseling services, on-campus student organizations and NCAA athletics.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Brundage to the Chico community and look forward to his leadership as we continue to build supportive, lively, and varied experiences for students as we emerge from the pandemic,” said University President Gayle Hutchinson. “His experience using innovative ideas to serve students will further our mission to help every student who comes to Chico State develop a unique sense of belonging in our community.”

When he starts at Chico State on July 1, Brundage will bring more than 20 years of senior-level higher education experience to the role. He comes to Chico State from Western New Mexico University (WNMU), where he served as the vice president of student affairs and enrollment management for 10 years. In this role, he integrated the university with the surrounding communities and increased enrollment. Prior to his position at WNMU, he served as director of community outreach, university ombudsman, and assistant to the president at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he oversaw campuswide efforts to increase student enrollment and retention, especially for underserved and underrepresented populations. His experience also includes serving as director of housing and residence life at Florida A&M University.

“I look forward to arriving on campus and engaging with students, staff, faculty and the surrounding community, and becoming a part of the Chico State family,” said Brundage. “I live by the motto everyone is both a teacher and a learner, so I can’t wait to get started interacting with the strong student success team where we all learn from—and teach—each other how we can best meet the immediate and future challenges of the University.”

Brundage holds doctorate, specialist, and master of education degrees from Florida Gulf Coast University. His bachelor’s in biology/education was earned at Florida A&M University. Prior to beginning his higher education career, he worked as a K–12 science teacher.
