A crowd of 3,000 prospective students and family members are expected to visit the California State University, Chico campus for Choose Chico! on Saturday, April 6.

Hosted by the University’s Office of Admissions, this campuswide open house runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will give students who have been admitted for the fall 2019 semester an opportunity to explore the campus and community, ask pertinent questions and interact with faculty, staff and current students.

Kim Guanzon, director of the Office of Admissions, said the day is an outstanding opportunity for the University to showcase its beautiful residential campus, friendly staff, and outstanding faculty and programs, adding up to an experience unlike any other.

“Choose Chico! is an exclusive event for those who have been admitted for fall 2019, and provides an exceptional opportunity for students and their families to experience all that Chico has to offer,” she said. “Whether students have already determined Chico State is their college of choice or they are on the fence, this is a must-attend event.”

Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. at tables near the Bell Memorial Union (BMU). After University President Gayle Hutchinson provides a warm welcome to attendees inside Laxson Auditorium at 9 a.m., the day’s activities begin, including tours of campus and residence halls, a student involvement fair, and University Housing and honors program presentations, as well as meetings with representatives from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and various colleges and departments. General sessions and campus tours will also be offered in Spanish, as well as tours in Hmong.

This year, Choose Chico! has added presentations for new students on academic success at CSU, Chico, as well as student health services and the University’s commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion. Presentations will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the BMU Auditorium.

Also, new this year is the “Intent Tent” on Trinity Commons, where new students who are ready to choose Chico can declare their intent to enroll and capture the moment at a photo booth, while being announced as new Wildcats by KCSC radio, the University’s student station.

This year also marks the return of community tours, with Butte Regional Transit (B-Line) providing transportation. Visitors will get bused on a loop through the South Campus neighborhood and downtown Chico, then past the entrance to Lower Bidwell Park on Woodland Avenue and back to campus. Community tours will begin at 10:30 a.m. and leave every 30 minutes.

Choose Chico! participants are encouraged to use the hashtag #choosechico while they share their experiences on social media.
