Worth Sharing: Cross Country Squads Flex Academic Muscles Nationally

Awards and Activities

The women’s cross country team was honored with All-Academic honors by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Student-athletes representing Chico State include Jaclyn Denham, Gracie Dupuis, Katie Hawley, Hannah Ryan, and Hanna Wirth—together, they posted a 3.54 grade point average and helped Chico State win the USTFCCCA Women’s All-Academic Team Award.

Meanwhile, the men’s cross country team (consisting of Rory Abberton, Matthew Herrera, Brayden McLaughlin, Dylan White, and Charlie Giannini) also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors. With its combined 3.27 GPA, Chico State was the lone West Region team to qualify for the NCAA Championships and earn academic honors.

Aubrey Miller, a Construction Industry Management senior, was recognized with the 2022 Weatherton Presentation Award for her presentation at the 2022 World of Concrete in Las Vegas earlier this month.

Publications, Presentations, and Exhibits

Agriculture student Saul Reyes penned a piece on the AGDAILY website titled, “When my passions intersect, agriculture comes out ahead.” Reyes is a double major at Chico State (Plant and Soil Science and Multicultural and Gender Studies) and serves as the 2022 American Farmland Trust Agriculture Communications intern at AGDAILY focusing on helping to amplify diversity and minority voices in agriculture.
