Worth Sharing: Kimball Publishes Book No. 22

Publications, Presentations, and Exhibits

Gayle Kimball (professor emerita in the Department of Sociology) recently published her newest book, “Young Global Changemakers for a Feminist Future.” The Nautilus award-winning author of 22 books, Kimball developed the Women’s Studies program at Chico State.

Mike Magliari (Department of History) published a piece in The Journal of American History. The piece, titled “‘A Species of Slavery’: The Compromise of 1850, Popular Sovereignty, and the Expansion of Unfree Indian Labor in the American West,” was published in December 2022.

Awards, Honors, and Activities

The College Sports Communicators showcased five Chico State basketball players for their excellence in the classroom with the organization’s 2022–23 Academic All-District award. Brandy Huffhines, Haley Ison, Makenzi Laporte, and Jordan Morris of the women’s team, and Joshua Hamilton of the men’s team were recognized for their excellence in the classroom as well as their performance on the court.

A trio of Chico State men’s basketball players earned all-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) honors for this season. Jojo Murphy was named First Team All-CCAA and was selected as the conference’s Freshman of the Year; and Hamilton and Kelvin Wright Jr. received Honorable Mention.

After his season debut last week, Jordan Ausbie was named the CCAA T&F Field Athlete of the Week. In the decathlon at the Chico Multi-Event Classic, Ausbie finished second with 6,000 points, currently the highest point total of any Division II athlete in the nation.

Chico State’s School of Nursing was recognized in The Princeton Review’s list of “Best Online Nursing School Master’s Programs for 2023.”
