Publications, Presentations, and Exhibits

Faculty Emerita Janja Lalich (Department of Sociology) penned a piece on MSNBC titled “Did the so-called Sarah Lawrence ‘sex cult’ members have a choice?” In the story, Lalich discusses the Hulu documentary “Stolen Youth” and explores the question about coercion—as well as culpability.

Benjamin Duarte (MESA Engineering Program and Chico STEM Connections Collaborative) was featured in the California State University’s profiles of those supporting CSU student success.

Awards, Honors, and Activities

Jacque Chase (Professor Emerita in the Department of Geography and Planning) was selected as a Fulbright US Scholar for 2023–24 for her research on fire in Portugal. Chase’s research proposal title is “Rural Revitalization and Thriving with Fire in Portugal,” and her research will take place in central Portugal, an area of repeated devastating fires, but also an area where many families settling the land to farm in sustainable ways—complementing her research in Paradise where she has looked at displacement after the Camp Fire.

Senior Chloe Taylor had an impressive performance at last week’s Wildcat Invitational—so much so that she was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s T&F Track Athlete of the Week. While she set a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00:39 (the top Division II 400-meter hurdles time in the nation), while anchoring the Wildcats’ winning 4×100-meter and 4×400 relay teams.

The website Best Accredited Colleges ranked Chico State at No. 13 on its “Best Bachelor’s in Health Science Degrees” list.

The Princeton Review recognized Chico State’s College of Business in a pair of recent rankings. In addition to being listed on “The Princeton Review’s 2023 Best Business Schools,” it was also honored in its “Top Online MBA Programs for 2023.”
