Publications, Presentations, and Exhibits

Department of Biological Sciences students Aleeza Namit and William Dowell co-authored an article in the journal PLOS ONE titled, “Pentachlorophenol has significant adverse effects on hematopoietic and immune system development in zebrafish.” Faculty advisors included Sandrine Matiasek (Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences), Jackson Webster (Department of Civil Engineering), and David Stachura (Department of Biological Sciences).

Awards and Activities

Men’s basketball player Malik Duffy was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-America squad. Duffy, a graduate student, adds this honor to his accolades this season, including 2022 D2CAA West Region Player of the Year and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Year.

After a fantastic appearance in the Wildcat Invitational, sprinter Savannah Bailey was named the CCAA Women’s Track and Field Track Athlete of the Week. Bailey, a sophomore, won the open 400 meters and her time of 56.82 seconds put her at No. 6 all-time at Chico State—she also added first-place finishes in the 4×100 meter relay and the 200 meters, and a second-place finish in the 4×400 meter relay.

Relief pitcher Kevin Lyons was named the CCAA Pitcher of the Week. The sophomore right-hander earned a pair of wins in relief as the Chico State baseball team swept Stanislaus State.
