Worth Sharing: Andrews’ New Book Explores Racial Divide in Sports

Awards and Activities

Chico State athletes Joshua Curls (men’s basketball) and Wyatt Baxter (men’s cross country) have been named winners of the NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award for 2021–22. Curls and Baxter are two of three student-athletes from the California Collegiate Athletic Association to win the monetary award, which was given to 75 athletes nationally to help them finish their degrees.

Publications, Presentations, and Exhibits

Vernon Andrews (Department of Multicultural and Gender Studies) explores the racial divide in sports in his newly published book, “Policing Black Athletes: Racial Disconnect in Sports.”

Matthew Stone (Department of Recreation, Hospitality, & Parks Management) recently published two research articles on food tourism. “Connections between culinary tourism experiences and memory” appeared in Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research. Learning through culinary tourism and developing a culinary tourism education strategy” appeared in Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change. He also presented his food travel research at three conferences: GWTTRA Annual Conference, West Federation CHRIE Annual Conference, and the World Food Travel Association’s FoodTREX Research Summit.
