Worth Sharing: NSPR Programs Earn National Recognition

The following is a listing of professional achievements by Chico State faculty, staff, and students. Submit your professional achievements to ucomm@csuchico.edu.

Awards and Activities

A pair of students received grants funded the Ag Health Benefits Alliance’s AHBA Educational Foundation, LCC. Biology major Daniela Mendoza Tapia and criminal justice major Eduardo Manuel Gonzalez both received the financial award, which is aimed to help the recipients to complete vocational or trade school programs or obtain college education in the field of their choice.

Professor Emeritus Eric Langford (Department of Mathematics) was bestowed with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a given field.

North State Public Radio (NSPR) was recognized for their work by earning a pair of Public Media Journalists Awards in the Small Market Radio category. Sarah Bohannon’s five-part, Annenberg Foundation-funded, community-focused series “Hunger in the Burn Scar” won first place in the Audience Engagement Program category, and the news team’s daily, 30-minute COVID-19 special was awarded second place in Continuing Coverage. News intern Christian Solis, producer Matt Fidler, and Russell Damien in operations were all instrumental in both projects.

Susan Green (faculty in the Department of History and Chair of the Department of Multicultural and Gender Studies) received a California State Resolution by state Senator Jim Nielsen. The resolution recognizes Susan for her long career in multicultural education and service for the California Faculty Association, as well as her many published works and her professional and civic leadership.

Six members of Chico State’s basketball teams were named to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Winter Academic Honor Roll. Vanessa Holland, Haley Ison, Caylee Hermanson from the women’s team and Joshua Curls, Colby Orr, and Kevin Warren from the men’s team were all honored with the award.

Slugger Amanda Metzger of the Chico State softball team was recognized for her excellence in the classroom, being selected for the College Sports Information Directors of America’s Academic All-District Softball Team. Metzger was one of just 98 Division II softball players to receive this honor.
