Awards and Activities

The Northern California Writing Project (NCWP) was recently awarded a $116,000 federal grant to continue to work with rural schools through its College, Community, and Career Ready Writers Program (C3WP). Led by Principal Investigator, NCWP co-director, and associate professor from the Department of English Kim Jaxon and co-director and Yuba College faculty Kyra Mello, the program provides professional development support in civic engaged writing instruction for English Language Arts teachers in four school districts: Big Valley, Maxwell, Princeton, and Westwood.

Publications, Presentations and Exhibits

Sandrine Matiasek, assistant professor from the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences, co-authored an article in the journal Nature Biotechnology titled, “Cell-free biosensors for rapid detection of water contaminants.” The article explores ways to ensure safe drinking water and to reliably and easily detect contaminants, which is potentially transformative.
