Worth Sharing: ALVA Student-Directed Documentary To Begin Airing Nationally in February

Awards and Activities

Freshman Jaiden Grivette was part of the Oakdale High School FFA Livestock Judging Team that captured the national livestock evaluation contest last month during the 94th annual National FFA Convention.

Six Chico State women’s soccer players captured all-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors. Forward Susanna Garcia was named CCAA Offensive Player of the Year and one of three First Team All-CCAA selections, along with defender Kylie Martinez and midfielder Camille Lidster; midfielder Sarah Emigh was recognized as a Second Team All-CCAA selection, as was goalkeeper Emma Hofman who also earned CCAA Newcomer of the Year; and defender Jordan Doukakis earned honorable mention.

Garcia and Emigh were also recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America on the organization’s 2021 Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Team.

Publications, Presentations, and Exhibits

Anthropology major Jai Dhillon’s film, “When the Smoke Clears” is currently screening at the Society for Visual Anthropology Film and Media Festival. The documentary, about the Camp Fire and directed by Dhillon through the Advanced Laboratory for Visual Anthropology (ALVA), was also filmed and edited by fellow Chico State anthropology majors Marley Grider, Elija Ramos, and Victoria Lewis, and ALVA’s Daniel Bruns. Additionally, the film has been picked up by PBS and will air nationally beginning in February.
