Worth Sharing: Livestock Judging Team Enjoys Best Finish Ever

Publications, Presentations and Exhibits

Majd Barchini, an electrical and electronic engineering major, presented aspects of his research titled “Deep Learning Classification of Optical Coherence Tomography Images for Oral Radiology: Optimization Methods” at the 2019 IEEE MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference held on October 11-13, 2019 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Barchini is currently working under the supervision of Hassan Salehi, faculty in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Awards and Activities

Chico State’s Livestock Judging Team placed third in the nation at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky—the highest finish for the University’s team ever. Team members were Kylie Burriss, Mikayla Duchi, Nathan Johnson, Madison Morgan, Noa Taipin, and Jared Wolf, and the team was coached by Clay Carlson.

Chico State’s women’s cross country team placed seventh at the NCAA Division II Championships at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on Saturday, November 23. Of the 34 teams and 264 runners, Nora Pizzella placed 60th, Gracie Dupuis placed 64th, Talia Swangler placed 79th, Destiny Everett placed 83rd, Taylor Bailey placed 103rd, Desirae Jones placed 124th, and Haley Boynton placed 192nd.

Chico State’s men’s cross country team placed third at the NCAA Division II Championships at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. Out of the 34-team, 262-athlete field, Chico State finishers included Wyatt Baxter (26th place), Jack Emanuel (30th place), Jhavahn Holston (33rd place), Rory Abberton (42nd place), Trad Berti (46th place), Remington Breeze (50th place), and Matthew Herrera (137th place).

Three Chico State volleyball players received all-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors. Kim Wright earned First Team All-CCAA honors, Makaela Keeve was named to the Second Team, and Brooke Ono received All-CCAA Honorable Mention.

Chico State men’s soccer player Garrett Hogbin was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association First Team All-West Region squad.
